How does the OneFooty comp work when determining how many games to tip and how the points you receive are pro-rata weighted for the end of season 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes? … well it’s basically this:
The comp uses a pro-rata weighted scoring system based on a target benchmark number of games to play each week. The total target number of games to play by season end for 2025 is 185 (slightly fewer games than the number of games in each of the AFL (216) and NRL (213) competitions).
To reach 185 games by season end, a tipster has over 750 games to choose from. A tipster has a lot of flexibility in which games they tip – and can miss whole rounds without submitting tips. In fact, a tipster can go away on holidays for weeks or months at a time and still reach the target 185 games!
Although 185 games is the minimum number of games to play to maximise your points by season end, a tipster is not limited to just tipping 185 games. A tipster could tip more, including all games on offer, but will have their scores proportionally averaged to allow a comparative pro rata weighted overall score.
Tipsters may pick less than 185 games by season end, but this will mean they will not maximise their scoring potential (by playing less than the target number of games).
Examples of different tipsters picking different numbers of games are as follows:
By season end:
Tipster 1 has tipped 100 games and accumulated 100 points. Tipster 1’s total Pro Rata Weighted Score for the season is: 100 (basically only tipped 100 games – so the points accumulated equals the final points (there is no adjustment upwards on your accumulated score if you tip less than 185 games)).
Tipster 2 has tipped 185 games and accumulated 185 points. Tipster 2’s total Pro Rata Weighted Score for the season is: 185 (basically tipped right on 185 games – so the points accumulated equals the final points (no adjustment))
Tipster 3 has tipped 370 games and accumulated 370 points. Tipster 3’s total Pro Rata Weighted Score for the season adjusts to be also: 185 (their points need to be adjusted or averaged back to be equivalent of somebody who tipped 185 games – so the points accumulated is adjusted as follows:

During the season, tipsters will have tipped different numbers of games by the end of each week. To enable a comparison of tipsters who have tipped different amounts of games at the end of each week, the OneFooty system uses the average points you have been getting per game you have so far tipped, and multiplies it by the target benchmark number of games to of played by that point.
